PhonePe Adoption Metrics
Category:
Design System - Adoption Metrics
Client:
Phonepe
Duration:
7 months
Objective
The objective of establishing adoption metrics for a design system, including :
Insertion Growth Rate (CIGR),
Component Insertion Percentage,
Accessibility Report
Tracking reasons for deprecation
is to assess the effectiveness and utilization of the design system within an organization.
These metrics aim to provide insights into the adoption patterns, usability, accessibility, and evolution of the design system components, facilitating continuous improvement and alignment with organizational goals.
Project Duration
The project is estimated to span over 7-8 months, considering the complexity of the tasks involved in auditing, tokenisation, and deployment phases. After all the phases evaluation of the system was necessary, to calculate the adoption.
Impact
The impact of this project is multifaceted:
Performance Measurement: Enables quantification of the adoption and utilization of design system components, providing insights into its effectiveness and relevance.
Accessibility Improvement: Facilitates the identification of accessibility issues through metrics such as Component Color Accessibility Report, fostering inclusivity in design.
Evolution Guidance: Helps in understanding the reasons behind the deprecation of certain components like list/input fields, guiding future design decisions and system enhancements.
User-Centric Design: Allows for the evaluation of relative component insertion percentages and total inserts and instances, aiding in designing components that align with user needs and preferences.
Current Challenges
The current challenges include inconsistency in design elements, lack of scalability, and inefficiency in the design and development process. Additionally, accessibility issues need to be addressed, and the design system needs to be tokenized for easier management and maintenance.
Scope
Component Insertion Growth Rate (CIGR): Tracking the rate of adoption of design system components over time to assess their popularity and relevance.
Relative Component Insertion Percentage: Analyzing the proportion of design system components used compared to non-design system components to understand the system's impact on design consistency.
Component Color Accessibility Report: Evaluating the color accessibility of design system components to ensure compliance with accessibility standards and guidelines.
Total Inserts and Instances: Counting the total number of insertions and instances of design system components across projects to measure overall adoption and usage.
Reasons for Deprecation: Documenting the reasons for deprecating components like list/input fields to understand usability issues, evolving design trends, or technological advancements.

Key Take Aways
Foster communication and collaboration between design and development teams to interpret adoption metrics effectively and implement necessary changes for continuous improvement.
